Este trabalho, de autoria de Eusébio de Cesaréia e perdido no original grego, foi encontrado em um manuscrito aramaico datado do ano 411 A.D. Entre muitos pontos interessantes, destaco uma citação que Eusebio faz de Antiguidades Judaicas, de Flávio Josefo, conhecida como Testimonium Flavianum. Chamo a atenção pois talvez seja o mais antigo manuscrito a trazer este controverso texto de Josefo.

Mas havia neste tempo Jesus, um homem sábio, se é correto chamá-lo de homem, pois era fazedor de coisas maravilhosas e professor de homens que, alegremente, com a verdade, recebiam-no. E muitos dos Judeus e muitos dos gentios reuniu. E este era o messias. E quando Pilatos, pelo acordo de homens, principais chefes entre nós, condenou-o à cruz[1], estes que antes o amaram não silenciaram. Mas foi visto no terceiro dia, estando vivo novamente, como os profetas divinos, estas e muitas outras [coisas], disseram sobre ele. Desde então até agora, a tribo dos cristãos não faltou[2].

Grande parte da obra de Teodoro de Mopsuestia está perdida no original grego, mas algo sobreviveu até nossos dias graças a traduções para outras línguas. Este livro nos apresenta o Comentário de Teodoro de Mopsuestia sobre o Evangelho de João, em uma tradução para o aramaico (ou siríaco). O manuscrito em que se baseia é recente, mas, de acordo com o editor, J. B. Chabot, a tradução é bastante antiga, talvez do século V, pois não apresenta helenismos e e expressões gregas que são encontradas apenas em escritores sírios de uma época posterior.
